Interviewer: Good morning Chulmin. Could you please introduce yourself briefly?

Chulmin: Yes, Hello, I’m Chulmin Lee, Head of Department for the ABB Account Management Team.

Since January 1st 2017, we have been based at the ABB Cheonan plant providing IFM services.

Interviewer: Could you please tell us more about your daily work?

Chulmin: To put it simply, I am in charge of integrated facility management services. It is important to note that this does not only include facility management services, but also the integration of various systems.

For example, if a construction project is carried out, tasks such as security, design, food services, facility maintenance, recruitment services etc. are all a part of my responsibilities.

Interviewer: When was the most difficult and rewarding moment in leading account management at ABB?

Chulmin: Since the services offered by ABB were unfamiliar to the local market in Korea, at first, it was difficult to gain customers’ trust. But by integrating and managing suppliers through a single contract, it simplified the work of customers, reduced human and material costs, and enabled efficient monitoring resulting in price competitiveness and cost reduction.

Now we are often approached first by customers regarding our services and are even the first contact for customers who may be experiencing complex issues.

Interviewer: What capabilities do you think you need as an Account Manager?

Chulmin: To work as an Account Manager, you must be able to understand the concept of integrated facility management, not just facility management. Facilities and their necessary equipment have a symbiotic relationship that must be understood within the larger context of their environments so that these partial elements are viewed inclusively from one perspective. Moreover, the Account Manager must facilitate positive and trusting relationships between all stakeholders involved.

Interviewer: How do you create motivation for yourself and for the team?

Chulmin: Work can be difficult as well as fun and interesting. We cannot always live up to the standards of professionalism that we aspire to achieve. In fact, all members, including myself, have room for improvement. However, being a part of a team has allowed me to improve myself as a professional. I think that being a part of a strong team is the most important determining factor of future success.
